Assalamualaikum. I was planning to do this blog last night, fresh after maulud nabi with the spirit of celebration still in full capacity but the pictures were not out yet, so here I am. Assalamualaikum again. Last night we, Bruwickies celebrated Maulud Nabi in remembrance of the birth of Prophet Muhammaad S.A.W. We did sembahyang isya' berjemaah followed by dzikir together. Then we had our sharing session related about Nabi Muhammad S.A.W, other prophet and about Islam. One of the thing that I learnt last night was always give salam to anyone and smile at the same time. We will have 'combo' pahala :D and it is okay to say salam to non-Muslim as it is actually arabic tradition of saying hello. This is just the summary from me and I think the bruwick Islamic blog will explain more. Then we had dinner and the foods was great, especially the desert. We ended up this event with picture talking session as per usual. This are 7 of Sunnah Rasullah :

Change in the format of BruWick debate competition

Hello our fellow Bruneians,

Due to some unforeseen circumstances we had to change the format of the event. As a result, the debate competition has been moved to the 11th of February 2012. It will be a round robin format, where each team will have the chance to show off their oratory skills against the other participating teams.

Bruwick Chinese new year celebration

Assalamualaikum and hello peeps!!

We celebrated Chinese new year last Wednesday, on the25th Feb. We had a competition of angpau making where everyone shows their artistic skills in less than 10 minutes. There were lots of beautiful angpau but Puding, Hanisah and Rasyidah's angpau were the best. They had to pick one of them to win the delicious price of chocolate cheesecake. We also played this drinking game (by drinking, I mean water) where we had to remember Chinese sentence while competing to finish a cup of water against the other team and tell the correct pronunciation to Silyin. Then we played this game which I don't really now the name but the point of this game is to count from 1 till whenever and clap and silence if there are 3, 6 or 9 in the count. For example 3, I'll clap once. 36 I'll clap twice without saying the number.We also played Bim, Bam, billy game. Well the conclusion is we had fun although it was weekdays and almost everyone (well I was), stressing for test/ exam. But it was worth to come :D

Assalamualaikum,

I think all the Bruwickies that came for HTC yesterday had fun!! ( HTC : Hot chocolate, Tea and coffee.) Most of us were bright and cheerful in our new gold BruWick hoodie :D The committees were working hard to serve the 'customer' and to provide entertainment. We did chinese whisper which was hosted by zaty Hasbi and the "Bim Bam, Billy" routine which were originally was a punishment for the losing team. But we ended up doing it together. Freshers Brunch

After planning, thinking, cancelling and searching for suitable restaurant for 3 months, we finally set up a date, place and time for freshers gathering where everyone (well almost everyone) can come. Today we had our gathering as a brunch in a house (kidah, zaty, Aqil and pudding' s place). We made sushi together and just talk. I hope the foods were nice and you guys had a fun time and by now know more about each other. Thank you for coming !!! :D

Chinese New Year

Hey guys, It's already mid January!! I hope you are still keeping the new year resolution promises and have finish your exam by now. Well I hope it went well. Well~ since it's chinese new year next Monday, on the 23rd Jan. I thought it would be nice to share story about the myth and legend of chinese new year. Well I know I'm curious about it. Oh! this year is the year of Dragon. Well here it is:

According to tales and legends chinese new year started with a fight against a monsted called 'Nian'. This monster would come out on the first day of chinese new year to eat on livestocks, crops and even villagers (especially children). To prevent this, the villagers will put foods in front of their doors and hope 'Nian' will eat the prepared food rather than eating their children. This seems to work. One day, the villagers saw this 'Nian' was scared away by a little children wearing red. Since that day, they started to wear red on chinese new year and hang lantern and spring scrolls on their window and doors. People also used firecrackers to scared the monster. The 'Nian' was eventually captured by a chinese monk called Hongjun Laozu. from there on the tradition continue every year.

Well that is the story. It is quite interesting. I just want to wish Happy chinese new year!! to all that celebrate it.

One world week festival

Salam peeps!! For the one world week festival, bruwick is setting up booths to just introduce Brunei and let people know more about Brunei. There will be 3 booths prepare on that day:

1)Trying on Baju cara Melayu and Baju kurong (our traditional custome) and taking pictures.
2) Congkak and simban (traditional bruneian games) workshop.
3) Booth especially made to describe Brunei with posters, pictures and leaflets with brief description of Brunei.

Time: Monday, 22nd Jan from 10 am to 5pm
Venue: copper room.

"The most important thing is to have fun!!" (quoted by Tharwana Harun) and we certaintly did! It was a great and fun experience to play against Imperial, UCL, Leicester and Birmingham last Saturday, 19th Nov 2011. We managed to 'pacahkan talur' (not scoring zero) and we won one match! woop woop! But in the end Leicester won the overall netball match. Congratulation :D Bruwick got third place in football with Birmingham in first place. On behalf of the committee, I wanted to say thank you for inviting and the friendly welcome :)) Not forgetting our supporter who came to London just to support us. You guys are awesome!

Mini Marathon

Assalamualaikum peeps!! Yesterday's weather was good as we did our first mini marathon around the university of Warwick campus. This was about 5 km, so I guess everyone felt good burning calories as a result of junk, fried uni life food. Eveyone finished the marathon and with pride! Hari Raya Aidil Adha was really succesful. Sembahyang isya' was lead by Zul and takbir raya was recited by all the male and followed by everyone. This was quite an emotional time for some. We had a big feast afterwards as everyone brought along foods. As per usual the event was closed by taking group pictures. This was where all the 'beautiful/cheeky' poses could be seen :p Thank you for coming and thank you for all the hard work preparing the foods and cleaning up the place afterwards.

We the bruneians do Hari Raya Aidil Adha the cool way. We are having potluck event on the 5th of November wearing baju kurong/ baju cara Melayu. Takbir hari raya and sembahyang isya' berjemaah will be the main events on that day and of course foods!! and drinks :))) We will have a feast, well hopefully as long as people bring in foods. Well that's potluck event right :D I do hope people would come and celebrate!!

Hello hello! I am terribly sorry for the late update, been quite busy since the university starts, sorry sorry!!

Anyway, in case people hasn't read my e-mails, facebook and twitter posts, ice breaking session will be at 7pm tonight in S0.19, Social Science Building! Non-members will be charged £2 on entry whereas it will be free for members. So if you haven't signed up, why not do it now? =D

This is how you do it:

1) Go to www.warwicksu.com

2) Log into your account (you should see the log in button on the top right)
3) Click on 'societies' > 'cultural societies' > 'Brunei Warwick'
4) Add 'Brunei Warwick Standard Membership' to your basket.
5) Proceed to checkout

AND YOU ARE DONE!! From next week onwards, probably, e-mails will only be sent to members, otherwise it will be unfair for those who have became a member right? So if you still want to receive updates from BruWick, please sign up~!

• Assist in holding Religious Events e.g. Nuzul Al-Quran, Maulud Nabi (pbuh), etc

• Help initiate collaborative events with other internal or external religious societies such as ISoc (Islamic Society) from Warwick or other universities

• Work together with Publicity Exec to provide members with useful religious information (Doas, Dzikir, Halal meats, Fiqih, etc)

• Assist in updating and maintaining Bruwick Website

• Work together with other exec members to promote Bruwick events through various channels of communication

Hello hello guys,

First of all, SELAMAT HARI RAYA EVERYONE~!! Maaf Zahir dan Batin, and please forgive me for the late update =p

Anyway, the gathering at Swensen's went well in my opinion. I hope the attendees think so too =D Only about half of the juniors turned up but it was still good. Thank you very much to everyone who actually spared some of their precious family time in order to attend to this event =') For those of you who couldn't make it, don't worry about it, you still have a year or two ahead of you that you can spend with the juniors~!

There were more of them than what you see in the photos above, its just that they all came at different times and we forgot to take pictures, sorry!

If you are updated with what BruWick is up to on facebook, you would have known that there will be 17 new juniors (that we know of) joining us starting the next academic year. Out of which we have 6 guys who will hopefully contribute to our football team =) Well not all of them play football but I am sure, err.. somehow, they will be made to play? aaaaaand 11 for our netball team, more than enough to form a team~! So people like me can finally retire from netball if you want to, haha =p

So.. A few of us joined Mavis to give a presentation in Maktab Sains on the 28th July 2011. We talked about our awesome experience in Warwick and also what BruWick gives to us :) Mr. George, a teacher in charge, was very kind to offer to take a group photo for us so I thought I should include this in the blog. Thanks again for inviting us over :)

On the same day, there was also the Pre-Departure Briefing at Empire's Hotel which we mentioned earlier. We showed them some photos of our life in Warwick, both formal events and some 'behind the scenes' photos, in the form of a video in the beginning. Followed by a presentation by Mavis and Saidi.

It was the LSG netball matches right on the next day. We did not win the games, but it was a good experience overall since we got to sweat a bit (or rather, a LOT) in between our busy eating schedule this summer. Oh, not to forget we received a free LSG towel too! Thank you very much to the LufBru society for all the hard work :)

Believe it or not, this was the only group photo that we had on the day as none of us had a camera with us, and this was taken using a camera phone.

And that wasn't the end of our busy busy July! We organised a BruWick picnic at Pantai Muara on the 31st of July, just before the start of Ramadhan :)

Things didn't go exactly according to plan, it took about an hour or so to start the fire. And we did not play any of the games we have planned for the picnic cause we were too busy splashing water among ourselves after the BBQ. So I would say that it might be even better than what was planned~

Also, Saidi has kindly created an event for Ramadhan for everyone, not just the BruWickies :) It is called the BruWick SEHAT (SEHari 1 ayAT) which, just like the name suggests, is about reciting a verse of the al-Quran each day. For more information, check out the facebook page here :D

Majlis Ramah Mesra dan Junjung Ziarah

Hi everyone! :)

First of all, happy 65th birthday to His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei!!! :D

There will be a Majlis Ramah Mesra dan Junjung Ziarah at 7am tomorrow, 24th of July 2011, at Camp 11 of Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien. Attendees are advised to park their cars around Masjid Jame' Asr Hassanal Bolkiah, Kampong Kiarong where shuttle bus towards the venue will be provided.

Also, registration for Orientation at Warwick from 27th - 30th September is now open. So freshers who are interested in joining please sign up here :) On the same page, you can also find information on what is going to happen during orientation. They will also be providing transportation from Heathrow Airport and from the train station to students who are participating in the event.

Pre-departure Briefing, LSG volunteers, FB group for freshers :D

Hi guys!

I hope you guys are enjoying your summer holiday wherever you are right now, be it Brunei, UK, KL or anywhere else around the world!

Anyway, remember last year we had a Pre-departure Briefing at the Empire Hotel? They are doing the same thing this year. Well I didn't go last year cause I was out of the country, but please do try to turn up :) It's a good time to get to know some of the juniors (for the current 2010/11 BruWick members) and for you juniors, you get to know some of your seniors!

The details are as follow:

Date: Thursday 28th July 2011
Time: 7.30 pm sharp (registration from 7.00 pm onwards) 
Venue: Conference room, Empire Hotel & Country Club, Jerudong

Mavis, The Senior Liaison Manager for Southeast Asia will be making a presentation about applying your student visa, accommodation options, orientation programme for international students, making your way to the Warwick campus, and much more. The BruWick committee will also be talking about the activities we had or will have for you next year and also about our own experiences in Warwick.

So for the new comers who are interested, you will need to complete an online form here and send it in before 21st July 2011. You can also bring up to 2 guests if you don't feel like going alone :)

Also, the LufBru society is also looking for volunteers who can umpire their badminton matches for their 5th LufBru Summer Games on Thursday, 28th July 2011 at Pusat Belia, BSB. The duration of the event hasn't been confirmed yet but their provisional plan suggests that it will be held from 8.00am till 6.30pm.

There will be job rotation implemented among the umpiring volunteers to make sure everyone gets a sufficient break, and they will also give you FREE LSG 2011 GOODIE BAGS!! The places are limited so they will handle this on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested, please contact lufbru@googlemail.com

Hello & Assalamualaikum warahmatullah. How’s summer treating you guys? Good? I sincerely hope that you are reading this in the best of health. I know some of you guys might still be having your exams and some have already completed everything, curently relaxing at homeland.

As you all know that Brunei Society in Loughborough University is going to hold 5th LufBru Summer Games on 28th till 30th July in Brunei Darussalam and I am sure all of us are looking forward to the event. The LSG’11 Exec Committee is now searching for volunteers to help us in making the event a tremendous success. All we require from you is:

Your Name
Your Student ID
Your Place of Study
Your Contact Details IN BRUNEI
Your Preferred Day(select two or all) 28th, 29th 30th July.

The tasks allocated to Volunteers will range from helping out the Committee with general control of participants and audience, to being linesmen for Badminton, so if you think you have the skills, do register with us atlufbrusg2011@gmail.com . It is preferable that you are not participating in the sports being held and at least 18 years old and above.

The DEADLINE FOR VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION is 11 June 2011, so don’t hesitate if you’re interested, okay? =D

Here’s a HUGE plus: Volunteers would be provided with certificates, food, drinks and gifts like the Volunteers stash – certainly not something you’d want to miss out on. However upon considering your registration, we would like you to ensure that you are free throughout the Games session, and that you abide by the rules and regulations for volunteering, which are as follows:

Throughout the Games, you must maintain self discipline and would need to abide by the rules of the Games at all times.
If you didn’t attend on you preferred day, you will be ask to pay for the stash.
All Volunteers MUST BE PRESENT according to the timetable drawn for them.
Volunteers are to be present at least 3/4 of the day’s event
All Volunteers MUST follow the dress code for the Games: appropriate attire – long sports pants.
Volunteers should be willing to participate with any task given to them by Executive committee even though it’s outside their area of expertise.
Volunteers need to ALWAYS refer to respective committee present should there be any difficulties.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and salam sejahtera to all!

Hope you will be reading this in the best of health and iman. To all Bruwick-ians alike, as we are entering the last 2 weeks of term, it itched me to not having another event with you guys. It must have been a very busy term so far and all that will be rewarded in about 2 weeks time right?

So as to increase the excitement and the waiting, why not in our midst of study and ''busy'' time to diverge our time thinking and to feel and to put ourselves in the shoes of people who would not have the ''luckiness'' to enjoy and to even buy even ''sesuap nasi''.

There's a saying that if we are on top of the stairs, we shouldn't forget at least to look behind us to these less fortunate I would say. Why is there a world of rich and poor? Why is there a world of black and white? Indeed in the creation of God, there's always hikmah and the balance of life. The rich and the poor work to harmonise the living in this world.

Lets ponder. But while you are still on that. We are offering all of you guys to donate ''seangkat hati'' to the orphans. Thats why we call it Extramiles for orphans. Insha Allah the plan will be to make this donation programme as our yearly event, or if you would like to donate it yourself you can just go to Islamic Relief. But to make it as our Tabung Amal BRUWICK (TABRU - or to be creative you can pronounce it as "TABUR") will be a bit of our creativity to call more people to realise,that the money we have, somehow, somewhere in that portion of our money, ada hak mereka yang memerlukan.

The orphans, the palestinians, the poors, them... They need it. We give, we get. Trust me, not in this world, but the world of hereafter. In Al Quran it being said lots of verses regarding spending money in a true way.

The money will get less in our physical view. But behind it, we actually get more and more.

"KEKAYAAN sebenar bukanlah kekayaan harta , BAHKAN KEKAYAAN HATI"

Bruwick Maulud Nabi Celebration in Borneo Bulletin

Bruwick recently celebrated Maulud Nabi for the second time since its establishment in 2007. Present as the guest of honour was Ustaz Haji Sammali.

Also present at the ceremony were the officers from the Brunei Student Union (BSU) in London namely Cikgu Khaleed Haji Sulaiman, Al-Aseer Hj Md Yussof, Warden Pg Wahab and the Religious Secretary of the Brunei Student Union.

The event started with the recitation of the al-Quran and its translation by the religious officer from the Bruwick Committee, Norsaidi Serail, followed by a talk from Ustaz Haji Sammali, which conveyed the importance of remembering Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his sunnah.

A brief history of the Prophet and the difficulties faced during dakwah shed light on the emphasis that the students must also face the trials that befall them with courage and certainty and they should strive in their endeavour in gaining knowledge and aim for the best despite any shortcomings.

After the talk was a recitation of the 'Dikir Marhaban' that signified the praise of the Prophet while reinforcing a sense of solidarity among the attendees.

Students also had the opportunity to talk with the officers during the short "makan-makan" session. Winners of the short quiz that was held prior to the talk were announced during the "makan-makan" session, followed by the presentation of gifts of appreciation to all BSU officers.

Grateful students hoped that the celebration will continue to be a highlighted legacy shared by all Brunei-Warwick students for more years to come, not only to encourage closer ties among students but to gain knowledge and aspire to follow the teachings of the Prophet (pbuh) in the spirit of creating a similar 'home' to Brunei, abroad.

Well done to Hadina for the article! Insha Allah in the hope that Bruwick will move with another pace towards excellence for Brunei Darussalam and especially for our beloved religion. Ameen ya rabb...

Alhamdulilah, the Sambutan Maulud Nabi this year went really well! Another Bruwick’s successful event!

Here’s a brief summary:

The event was held on Wednesday, 16^th February 2011 and officially started at 7.30pm. The opening of the event was a beautiful Quran recitation performed by our Religious Officer. The event continued with a talk given by our guest , Ustaz Sammali bin Haji Adam. And like every other Maulidur rasul celebration, everyone in the room then stood up and recited the Dzikir Marhaban.

Assalamualaikum dear brothers and sisters =D Hope you will be reading this in the best of health and iman. Following the OWW week here comes another great talk by Yusha Evans. Details belows:

Location	H0.51 (Humanities ground floor).

Born and brought up in Greenville, South Carolina, Yusha Evans converted to Islam after searching many other religions and philosophies. In his words, "I started searching other religions– every kind of “ism” that’s out there – and none of them seemed to have a clear truth.

One day I found myself talking with a young Muslim who invited me to jummah, the Friday service and congregational prayer. When I saw the Muslims praying, bowing and prostrating with their heads on the floor, all the verses of the scriptures describing the prayer of the prophets came flooding back to me. I asked for a copy of the Quran, read it from cover to cover in three days, found my tangible proof, and the rest (as they say) is history."

Yusha currently works as a full time caller to Islam and has travelled extensively conducting dawah workshops and calling people to Islam. He has studied under numerous teachers in the U.S and Egypt.

So NEWS, just wanted to say, if you are not up to date yet, OUR HOODIES HAVE ARRIVED! WOOOOHOOO! They are gorgeously 'violet' and mind you, I've turned a few heads wearing this years hoodie - in a good way - and you should be experiencing the same thing too. Bruwick FTW! I can't wait to show them off during BruNotts Easter Games!

Brunei Social Night
Okay! Update!! As I've stated during some of our socials, there will be a Brunei Night this year, insyaAllah. But unfortunately, there has been problems with our sponsorship and thus leads us to not having sufficient funds for the event =( I know, it's disappointing. You do not know what hurdles we had to cross to find out that our 'sponsorship' was not valid. But it's okay!

You know why?

I'LL TELL YOU WHY!

We're doing a collaboration with the Indonesian Society this year for One World Week AND some of the Bruneians are going to be a part of MSA's Mnight! How exciting is that? Plus, we have a booth to showcase our traditions and cultures during OWW! And it'll be different this year, TRUST ME! We're even doing a 'Ketupat Making' workshop and a 'Defeat the Bruneian' congkak play off!

Many apologies if I had gotten your hopes up. Believe you me, I was determined to get us going, but when there's no money, there's no talk. When there's no talk, there's no walk. And when there's not walk, there's no dancing. .. Well you know where i'm going here. =p I'm very very sorry. Fault in its entirety should be mine, and mine alone. Again, I am very sorry.

Events to look forward to this term!
Of course our weekly sports will undeniably be weekly!

There's a possibility of friendlies for both Football and Netball between other Bruneian societies around the UK! We'll try to get everything sorted as soon as possible =)

A charity games night or maybe just a casual games night to relieve the stresses of the start of term! Watch out for this event! It's going to be super duper cool!

Assalamualaikum brothers and sisters dearly <3 wallahi :D

Time surely flies very fast without us knowing it, we are now stepping into yet another new year of hijrah. Alhamdulillah, we are still given the opportunity to breathe, to see the white snow, to wake up in the morning just to attend another lecture on the final week - WEEK 10! Subhanallah! How merciful and loving Allah is.

Though how much sins and wrongdoings we doooooooooo. Allah stills give us the time to live up our life and repent time and again! So we might as well want to ask ourselves what's our new resolutions for the year? What we look forward for this new hijrah? What's in our mind? And most importantly, what have we done so far as Allah's slave? Have we benefit from the year previously?

OR....we are just still the normal boring person? Time waits for no man. Only in surah al'asr is the key for our success!

Insha Allah if there's a will there's a way! :D So never give up! Keep up with the good works and lets do our hijrah MAKNAWIYYAH, hijrah of our spirit, hijrah against our nafs! hijrah for the deen! Hijrah to be a better muslim.

Hijrah for a better world. here and the hereafter...

May Allah always guide us in the righteous path like what we always recited in ALFATIHAH :D

Ya Allah, segala yang telah ku kerjakan selama tahun ini dari apa yang menjadi larangan-Mu, sedang kami belum bertaubat, padahal Engkau tidak melupakannya dan Engkau bersabar (dengan kasih sayang-Mu), yang sesungguhnya Engkau berkuasa memberikan siksa untuk saya, dan Engkau telah mengajak saya untuk bertaubat sesudah melakukan maksiat. Bruwick and BruLeics Unite!

Last Saturday, 4th December 2010, we had our first friendly sports match with the BruLeics. The boys and girls from both teams had the chance to play against each other through netball and futsal. First up was the futsal match that began at 2 and lasted for about two hours. The match was held indoor at the Westwood Games Hall.

After sports, at about 7pm, we went to the city centre to have dinner at Cosmo. That was the perfect time for us to mingle around and a chance to get to know the Bruleics people.

We would like to thank them again for coming and willing to come all the way to play with us. To summarise, it was a tiring and yet a fun day!

Bruwick's Sambutan Hari Raya Aidiladha 1431H

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone. As we all know, Raya Aidiladha this year fell on 16th November 2010 bersamaan 10 Zulhijjah 1431 Hijrah. We, the Bruwick people celebrated our Sambutan Hari Raya Aidiladha last Wednesday and it turns out to be a very successful event, thanks to everyone who made it possible.

The event was held on 17th November, at 7pm in the Ramphal Building. Firstly, we had our solat Isyak together, followed by solat hajat berjemaah and takbir.

Our Religious Exec then gave a talk (ceramah) about ‘pengorbanan’ after all the boys did the takbir.

To add to the contents of the lil bit of ''pengisian'' were the 3 part stories of why we celebrated aidiladha and what could we learn from it.

1) The story of Habil and Qabil which was beautifully potrayed in Al Quran, surah Al Maidah verses 27-31. Lets ponder on the verses! To make long story short, basically Habil's qorban was accepted by Allah swt and Qabil emanated this kind of jealousy that made him killed Habil , painting yet another tragic (and the first) crime on planet earth! Subhanallah!

2) The story of Prophet Ibrahim and his son Prophet Ismail and his wife Siti Hajar. The family that kept ''diuji'' and tested by Allah. Ibrahim was asked by Allah in his dream to make a qorban out of Ismail. But it turned out that Ismail was exchanged by Allah with a ''qibas'' the story can also be read in the Quran in Surah As Saaffat 103 onwards insha Allah.

3) The qorban in the age of Prophet's Muhammad SAW ummah. Which is now!

So basically we learned how qorban was another symbolic thing in Islam, qorban means us to sacrifice in order to get close to Allah. Qorban was a symbol of ''penghambaan diri'' in Islam. Looking at the history of past events, compared to us, we still complain and so on. But then if we reflect back, apa sajalah pengorbanan kitani compared to the prophets alaihissalam????

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh everyone! :D

Time flies soooo fast - and now here we are again celebrating yet another big day in our Islamic calendar. The very day that reminds us about Prophet Ibrahim's sacrificing his son Prophet Ismail. All of us know well of this story as well as the sacrifices that Siti Hajar made as well. But how many of us take this story as a lesson to improve our condition of life for this world and as much as we want it ,for the the next life - AKHIRAH.

Subhanallah let us ponder and think again of this beautiful story and implement it in our daily life. Surely we are being reminded. But do we take notice of all that ?

Last but not least, brothers and sisters to come and ''meriahkan'' the Eid Prayer for Aidiladha tomorrow at 8am. It's better to come early right?

and here's the drill for us to know:

Niat imam:

أُصَلِي سُنةَ عَيدِ الأَضحَى اِمَاماً للَهِ تَعَالَى

Niat ma’mum:

أُصَلِي سُنَةَ عَيدِ الأَضحَى مَأمُوماً لِلَهِ تَعَالَى

Selepas takbiratul ihram, bertakbir 7 kali. Manakala pada rakaat kedua sebelum membaca surah al-Fatihah dibaca takbir 5 kali. Dan di antara takbir-takbir itu (di rakaat pertama dan kedua) dibaca tasbih.

Tasbih yg dibaca:

سُبحَانَ اللَهِ وَالحَمدُلِلَهِ وَلَا اِلَهَ اِلَا اللهُ وَاللَهُ أَكبَرُ

Surah-surah yg sunat dibaca selepas surah al-Fatihah ialah surah al-A’laa pada rakaat pertama dan surah al-Ghasyiah pada rakaat kedua.

Selepas solat dibacakan dua khutbah.

Pada hari raya adha disunatkan takbir muqayyad iaitu takbir mengiringi tiap-tiap solat fardu sama ada tunai atau qadha, sunat rawatib, sunat mutlaq dan sunat-sunat lainnya, demikian lagi solat jenazah atau nazar.

Waktu bertakbir mulai dari subuh hari ‘Arafah hingga asar akhir Hari Tasyriq (13 Zulhijjah).

Brothers weekly tedarus for week 6

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh :D

Please take note of the tedarus session for brothers the timing and the place. Alhamdulillah , I have posted the event on Facebook as well.

Following the first ever tedarus session on Wednesday (3-4pm) for the year 2010/2011 which is on the 3rd November 2010 last time, here we go again, inviting more people to come and memeriahkan the event. If everything goes well (ameen) we will have our own khatam Al Quran event in spring ar...ound march or april 2011.

The first one was Alhamdulillah went well and it was held at room H0.44. For your information, that room is already booked for this use for the whole term. Looking at the attendees for the first tedarus, it would be more fun if you guys can join this another tedarus. Well, no pressure there :D It was suppose to be a golden moment for us to gather and to “merapatkan” the ukhuwah between the brothers.

It’s just another informal-once-in-a-while gathering.

We read and we reflect. We read and we reflect. We read again and we reflect.

Insha Allah for the brothers, we will be doing 1 juz per week. The same goes for the sisters. So basically we are doing juz 1 for this week, and juz 2 for the sisters. and so on...

So here’s the drill for the weekly tedarus:
Pembukaan with surah Al Fatihah, reading the Quran in turns (lihat keramaian yang datang), tadabbur ayat at the end followed by bacaan doa lepas membaca Al Quran, surah al asr and tasbih kiffarah.

Here’s the opportunity to luruskan our bacaan as well and learn bit by bit nurturing the love to engage with Al Quran. It’s basically tedarus, and at the end of the day it’s also our mini QC!!!! How cool is that?

There’s this saying that goes like this:
If we want to talk to Allah , perform your solah. If we want Allah to talk with us, read the Quran.

Jom datang for the next tedarus week 6 , at Khaaliq and the geng’s house from 3-4pm. OK? Loooking forward to see you guys there , insha Allah.

Let’s renungkan one ayat that we managed to share for the first tedarus :
“Wahai umat manusia! Sesungguhnya telah datang kepada kamu Al-Quran yang menjadi nasihat pengajaran dari Tuhan kamu dan yang menjadi penawar bagi penyakit-penyakit batin yang ada di dalam dada kamu dan juga menjadi hidayat petunjuk untuk keselamatan, serta membawa rahmat bagi orang-orang yang beriman” Surah Yunus ayat 57.

It's time to blow the dust off our Quran and making up the effort to make Al Quran as our best friend ever. Insha Allah. Hope to see you there brothers! :)

and oh for the sisters side as well. Alhamdulillah QC ran smoothly for couple of weeks already, and add to this, is the tedarus session as welll. So, sisters and brothers alike, make goooood use of the opportunities given. At the end of the day we will find ourselves getting more knowledges and at the same time we are utilising the best of our time in Warwick, and eventually we can improve ourselves as time goes by. Agree?

Salam and hello everyone, especially the awesome Bruwickians!!. Thank you so much for those who came for the housewarming yesterday. It was really fun and we really had a great time!! We hope you guys enjoyed yesterday too. Anyways, housewarming updates will be later in the post, now's the time for sports updates!

As usual, we did the Bruwick Weekly Sports this week, but this week we had five, yes FIVE different sports going on. There were Badminton, Squash, Tennis, Netball and Football. Enough talk, now let's just get on with the lovely pictureessss <3

This week the Bruwick Football team had a tournament (friendly?) with the SingSoc football team. I'm not sure of the results, because the girls didn't stay until the end of the game. Pointless games but FUN! And we're really glad most of the seniors came to the housewarming. Thanks again Seniors! You guys are awesome!!

Bruwick AGM 2010/11

Salam and heloooooo everyone!! Welcome to my first post as an IT executive wheeee… As you all know we had our AGM meeting last last Wednesday on 20th October 2010 and new officers have been appointed for the new committee 2010/11. CONGRATULATIONS!!

So the event took place at the Ramphal Building in the room that we, freshers had a hard time finding and eventually had to call the President for direction :S. We started off a bit late, but ‘improving’ according to President Thar =D First thing’s first, recitation of Doa Al-Fatihah by our new religious exec, Norsaidi bin Serail. And there were short speeches by our big four, Senior Thar, Khaliq Saadiq, Izzan and Shin.

Before deciding the new committee, every one of the nominees are required to give a speech on why they are suitable to take up the post that they are nominated for (though there were posts that had only ONE nominee keke =D).

Anyways, Akmal was the first one to ‘compete’ for the Sports Executive post.

Then, Sarah for the Social Executive post. There were actually two nominees for this post, but Ka Adina wasn’t able to make it that night.

Next up was Saidi, for the Male Religious Executive.

Then President Thar read Ka Adina’s hardcopy speech to the audience for the Female Religious Executive post (sorryyyy nada picture).

And last but not least me, for the IT executive post =D

And soo, everyone voted happily, the election ended smoothly, and a new Bruwick committee is born!! JEJENGG~

I just wanted to THANK EVERYONE again for coming to yesterday's ice breaking session! It was great seeing the old and the new have such fun! The game of chinese whispers was a little too easy for some and even though there were some technical difficulties with Jeopardy first, atleast we got through it with ease, Alhamdulillah! =D

Well done to Group 4 for winning the grand prize which was 'GOLD CHOCOLATE' *winkwink* and our individual riddle winners SzeNee and Mateen for winning the tiramisu! We shall have more games and prizes soon!

I am very sorry that we've kept this page so idle since we've been back. Settling in and getting used to our renewed lives here at Warwick can be a little tiresome, but again, that should be no excuse!

Welcome to the Freshers young and old to the life at the University of Warwick! Hope everything has been going smoothly so far. We're having our first official event this year, TODAY, Wednesday 13th October 2010 at 7 to 9pm at the Ramphal Building room R2.41. There'll be games, finger food, more games and MORE FOOD! =D with the ADDED satisfaction that IT'S FREE! =D Please do come along if you're not busy!

Anyway, we had a good sports session last week as an initiation to getting to know the juniors! Yes, I know it was early! But you've got to admit that it was good excercise! =D There will be more sports events this week and you shall be able to find it at the Sports Section on the website!

Since there isn't really much to update yet (..until tonight that is) I shall blog our forthcomings, REAL SOON! =D

The presentation at the BSU gathering went quite well I have to say. However, it was a little unfortunate to get the news that only TWO GIRLS are confirmed to go to Warwick University! But the good side is that's two more than nothing =D

As soon as the number of people increases (we're expecting around 10 more actually) I shall let you know! Oohh that reminds me, GOOD LUCK to everyone anticipating their results! Insya Allah you shall pass with FLYING COLOURS! Anyway, don't worry freshers and current seniors, because fo' shizz there will be a gathering to get to know them before they lose themselves once they arrive at University!

A hadeeth regarding Ramadhaan:
Hadhrat Salmaan (R.A) reports that on the last day of Sha'baan the Messenger of Allah Ta'aalaa addressed then and said,

"Oh people, there comes before you now a great month, a most blessed month in which lies a night more greater in virtue than 1,000 months; (LAYLATUL-QADR). It is a month in which each day should be observed by fasting, this has been made obligatory by the Almighty Allah."

Gathering at Bombay - Mark of new Exec Committee

Alhamdulillah, hoped everyone enjoyed the gathering. We got to see 3 new faces who will join us in Warwick this September and our senior Aziz. We thank you Khaaliq for reciting the doa to bless our society's activities.

The title for this gathering was supposed to be Doa Kesyukuran for the graduating seniors, welcoming juniors and handover to new committee. But since it was too long, it was named along the lines of Rojak. Rojak Gathering!

With that gathering, this marked the End of 09/10 exec committee and the Start of 10/11 committee.

We pray that the society will always be successful in maintaining the good name of Brunei :) Amiin ya Rabbal Alamiin.

Empire Gathering to Meet New Juniors!

Warm greetings from the hot and humid Little Red Dot!

We will be holding a pre-departure briefing for all new Warwick-bound students in Brunei on 22 July, and invite you to come along for this event where you will be able to meet potential juniors and help me by sharing your own experience at Warwick with them!

The details are as follows:
Venue: Empire Hotel & Country Club, Jerudong
Date: Wednesday, 21 July
Time: 7.30-9.00pm

I will be making a short presentation on Warwick, and a couple of you can then take over and talk a little about Bruwick and what a wonderful time you are having at Warwick! Alternatively, we can adjourn directly to the buffet and you can chat with the students one-on-one, if you prefer! In any case, I would be most grateful if I can have one volunteer to help me with the registration! A limited edition Warwick collectible will go to the first volunteer!

New Old Exco Lunch with Mavis

Some of the 09/10 and 10/11 execs had the chance to have the annual lunch with Mavis at Xananas earlier today. For those who don't know, Mavis is in-charge of the International Office Southeast Asia and she's based in Singapore office. Every year (for three years already I think), students who considered Warwick as their choice gets to meet her during the pre-departure briefings in Brunei. We really look forward for the next pre-departure briefing to meet new the new freshers! :)

Bruwick tadaruss sessions have been going in the past months and a Majlis Khatam Al-Quran was held in conjunction to the completion of the recitation of Al-Quran during those sessions. Solat sunnat Hajat was also performed together to pray for Allah's blessings in our efforts for the upcoming exams. Food and drinks were contributions from all.

Hello everyone,

On Friday, 14th of may 2010, MSA oragnised an amazing barbecue. It was really nice of them to invite members from Bruwick as well. It was a really fun event that was organised by MSA's new committee. We enjoyed our time there and had a lot of fun. The food was great, but the company was better. It was a very memorable evening as games were organised and played by almost everyone that came. The field was utilised well by those who came. At the end of the day, everyone was tired and Bruwick members helped out with barbecuing the remainder of the chickens to help satisfy the growling stomach of those that had just finished playing games. I would like to thank MSA for inviting Bruwick to this amazing event and I hope that MSA and Bruwick will continue to have strong ties with each other.

The Annual General Meeting Part 1 (AGM I) is held to elect the new president, vp, secretary and treasurer for the next academic year amongst other things. At 6pm today, the 4th Bruwick AGM I was held at the ramphal building RO.12. Present at the event were Bruwick members and non-members as well as representatives from MSA committee.The event started off with the recitation of Surah Al-fatihah led by Khaaliq followed by the speech from our VP, Alex. A t-shirt signed by my execs and members was presented to me by Alex.

(I would sincerely like to say thank you very much to all of you. I am sorry for any wrongdoings I might have done and I apologise on behalf of my execs for the mistakes we do as a committee. We appreciate the feedbacks we get and hope to make improvements. Last but not least, May your life be blessed and you guys achieve great success. :)

A slideshow of the events and activities that Bruwick members did throughout the academic year was presented. Some events shown were initiated and organised by the members themselves. Next agenda was the financial report by Ezza followed by Q & A session. Any comments and issues raised were properly settled.

The final main agenda of the day was the Election of the big four of 2010/2011 committee. May I present to you

The Bruwick family needed a break, and there is nothing better than having a picnic in Kenilworth with your UK family.The plan was to walk to Kenilworth from Gibbet Hill campus and this journey will take approximately 45 minutes. The journey was indeed quite tiring but the sights and sounds that we encountered along the way was a worthwhile experience. We saw a bit of the countryside, saw huge fields of plantation (of which you will never see in our homeland) and even managed to see some of the vintage British cars (like those classic box-shaped cars we always see on TV) as they drove past us.

We arrived in the early afternoon at Kenilworth, immediately finding a good spot for our picnic. There were many choices but we decided to settle down under a big tree, which was just under the watch of the huge Abbey Park hill and quite close to the huge lake. As most of us walked there, we decided to rest for a while and jump in to our favourite activity that is to eat. Hours before the picnic, some of us have baked, cooked and made food just for the occasion and so there was definitely an abundance of food for everyone.

After settling down our hunger and slight tiredness, we decided to have some fun and play ultimate frisbee. By then, we were joined by several Bruneians from other universities as well. After all, the Bruwick family is always open to everyone. We divided ourselves into two teams and played the game. For some of us, it was our first time and so the first few rounds was filled with people with puzzled looks. The game ended with a draw as some of us were tired and so had to abandon the game.

However, the sun was still shining and so the boys decided to play football. It was definitely a great game of football as there were 'import' players from other universities as well. They were so relaxed playing the game that some of them did not even bother to wear shoes. Meanwhile, the girls did something more extreme. They rolled down the slightly sloping hill, not caring if there might be mud (or worse) on the ground. Overall, both genders had fun playing their respective 'games'.

We relaxed after that and some of us decided to play 'Twister' while others would wander around the park and appreciate its beauty. After the Twister game ends, we decided to play one final game - our own rendition of dodge ball. The game is basically like dodge ball except the ball that we used was an air-filled plastic ball and so it was very light. We had fun playing the game until the sky was finally darkening and so we decided to go back home. This time, we used the bus instead as the darkness that the night brings, also brought with it coldness. We waved goodbye to another great day in Kenilworth and some of us said "let's do this again next year!"

The talk entitled "Towards Success" was organised by BBSS (Bruneians in Birmingham Student Society) in Aston University. The event started at 10.30am and the talk was given by Ustaz Haji Raminey from BSUnit. Representing Bruwick were Hafiyyah and Hanisah. Videos of the talk can be found here.

Several members of Bruwick dropped by the PG Symposium on the weekend of March 20th, 2010 which was held at the SOAS campus in London. Fayezuana Ali, a postgraduate at Warwick, presented her research on Human Rights in Education and the event was MCed by another Bruwick postgraduate, Syazana Ebil.

28 Rabiulawal 1431H- The Brunei Student Unit held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony for their students who had completed reciting the Al-Quran. For students who study in London, they were blessed with the opportunity to attend the weekly ‘mengkhatamkan Al-quran’ session every Friday night at Brunei Hall, London where BSU is based at. However for those studying outside London, we were encouraged to organise our own tadarus sessions which Alhamdulillah Bruwick had been doing on a weekly basis. For the event, representives from Bruwick were Hanisah (Religious exec) and me. Present at the ceremony were Cikgu Dollah, Director of Studies, UK as the guest of honour and other BSU officers as well as other Bruneian students. The Khatam Al-Quran participants were led by Ustaz Raminey (Religious officer BSU) the whole way from the recitation of the Holy Quran to the chanting of dzikir to Allah and finally a doa to bless the ceremony and more importantly the act of good deed that we hope to instil in our everyday lifestyle.

Brunotts Easter Games had just finished, the normal routine of waking up and going to training was no longer there, everyone was looking for a reason to wake up. We wandered looking for things to do, no classes, no seminars, nothing. It was the Easter holiday and everyone was tired from BruNotts. Only one thing could be done to rejuvenate everyone, HOTPOT! Yes, you heard me right. A celebratory hotpot was organised as a show of appreciation to everyone who joined and showed their full commitment during the games. Like last time, the event was made more memorable by our musically inclined members. Last but not least, an exciting event would not be complete without several rounds of games being played.
